Things To Do In The Chicago Suburbs
I’ll admit that I’m not a huge baseball fan (soccer is my true love), but there’s something special about being at a baseball game with my family and a bunch of people rooting for the same team which makes it fun. day. We enjoy going to Chicago White Sox baseball games, especially the Kid Friendly Family Sundays where they have lots of special activities for kids and the chance to play camps after the games. Honest Pros & Cons Of Living In Chicago, Illinois
There are many great museums in Chicago, but the Museum of Science and Industry is one of our family’s favorites. I really like that it offers a lot of learning activities, and I feel like it’s one of those places that you can visit every few months and always have something new to discover. This summer we are waiting for a new exhibition called The Science Behind Pixar (at MSI until January 6, 2019). This 13,000-square-foot interactive exhibit shows how Pixar artists and computer scientists use science, technology, engineering and math to bring Pixar’s award-winning films to life.
Chicago may not be near the sea, but it is near Lake Michigan, which means there are plenty of sandy beaches along the lake… 26 free beaches to be exact! If you’re going to the Adler Planetarium or the Shedd Aquarium, you can add 12th Street Beach to your agenda because it’s here. It’s not a great beach, but we enjoyed coming and dipping our toes in the water.
There is no shortage of festivals and celebrations in the city. From music to art and literature, at least a festival or two is organized every weekend. Here’s a guide to the best festivals and celebrations in Chicago this summer.
Chicago is usually explored on foot, but there are many other ways to see the city, and I am sharing 7 special ways to see Chicago here. You can view Chicago from above by taking the elevator to the top of the Sears (Willis) Tower, you can take a trolley or trolley around the city, and you can ride a boat in the river or out on the lake.
Free Things To Do With Kids In Chicagoland
Spend the day rain or shine at the King’s Food and Entertainment Center (or make a day of it and use the special “day of the day” ticket). They have bowling, of course, but there are also other fun games like pool, shuffleboards, foosball, and air hockey. And remember to eat while you’re there. I enjoyed all the food offerings they had. All of their food is made in-house, and whenever possible they source hormone-free, non-GMO, fresh, local ingredients. Also, they provide access to vegetarian, vegan and vegetarian products. My favorites are Spring Rolls and Buffalo Chicken Wontons, but they offer more dinner options than dessert (trust me, you won’t want to skip dessert).
You can’t visit Chicago without visiting Millennium Park (and the related Maggie Daley Park). In the summer, kids splash in the Crown Fountain or play in the 3-acre Maggie Daley Park playground. There are many buildings to look at (including the “bean” which is a tourist photo spot) and a garden full of beauty to admire. On summer evenings, you can enjoy live music and movies at the outdoor Jay Pritzker Pavillion.
Many people know this 300-foot-tall mountain on the Chicago border of Lake Michigan as the home of the Chicago Museum of Art and the Giant Ferris Wheel, but there is plenty to do. Visitors can catch a performance at the AMC Navy Pier IMAX Theater, the Chicago Shakespeare Theater or outside Navy Pier at the Polk Bros Performance Lawns. Those who like art will be interested in the art exhibitions organized by Navy Pier, and those who prefer water below will want to experience one of the ships that depart from Navy Pier. End the day with dinner at one of Navy Pier’s restaurants and evening fireworks on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

10. Explore the underwater life at the Shedd Aquarium or check out the new outdoor aquariums.
Two of my favorite activities at the Shedd Aquarium are watching the rays and watching the dolphin show. The exhibition, called Underwater Beauty, explores the beauty of the underwater world, where more than a thousand animals representing 100 species from around the world are on display, including grasses and they can break glass, shrimp that can break glass, sea jellies that float and fish that swim. behind. To top it all off, Shedd is offering new outdoor water features this summer. designed to create interest in local water and wildlife by bringing people closer to them. From a traveling aquarium that showcases animals in some of Chicago’s neighborhood streets and parks, to a new floating island conservation program for passengers on the Chicago River and a science experience on a cruise on Lake Michigan. LEGOLAND Discovery Center is the ultimate LEGO playground with two floors, 10 LEGO buildings and play areas, a 4D cinema and more! Children will love to see everything that master builders have built, including a mini-Chicago (built with more than 1.5 million bricks!) and some of their favorite things and scenes from Star Wars. There is also the Pirates Adventure Island playground which seems to get my son’s attention every time! LEGOLAND Chicago Discovery Center also always has fun events. Last time we went there was a “kids vs adults” challenge (which the kids almost won…surprise.surprise…) and they have a lot of fun coming up soon for their 10th anniversary. I also love that they have sensory friendly “Play Well Days” on the first Saturday of every month for those with autism, SPD and other special needs, so if you’re looking for something meaningful, put that on your calendar 🙂

12. Take the train to Naperville, a local area with a great downtown area near the Metra line.
Naperville is my favorite neighborhood in Chicago. There are many things to do and all are easily accessible from the train station. I love walking through the city center and along the river while my kids play Pokemon Go and try to catch as many Pokemon as possible. It is home to the Children’s Museum of DuPage, a popular place for children to play and discover where my children have loved to play since they were little. On hot days, you’ll want to hang out at Centennial Beach, a “swimming hole” created in an old abandoned rock. There is also a Paddleboat Quarry where you can rent paddle boats and kayaks. We love spending time on the water in our little boat! Also, be sure to check if there are any special events at the event. Ribfest is in early July, so it’s over for this summer, but I highly recommend it if you’re in the area during that time!
