Police said the fire started in a house behind the house where the owner’s daughter Tanya Bathija lived. Two patrol officers and a sergeant attempted to enter the cottage but were unsuccessful in the fire. They were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for smoke inhalation.
The father, who had woken up to exercise, called 911 but was unable to get into the home, News 12 Long Island reported.
Before opening Dunkin’ Donuts in Bellport, Batija earned an MBA in accounting and finance from Baruch College, Greater Long Island reported. He got the second while working at Blue Point.
His father, Ben Batija, became the owner of Dunkin’ Donuts in 2002 after working in the apparel industry for more than 20 years in New York City, reports Greater Long Island.

Todd Yovino, a licensed broker and owner of Island Advantage Realty, said many home buyers want easy access to highways like the Long Island Expressway and the North State Parkway. For anyone concerned about noise, both routes have sound walls and are surrounded by trees and hills. “The best part is that you can cut your commute by 10 to 15 minutes per leg. It adds up,” says Yovino.
