Swan Valley Wine Region In Western Australia: Perth To Swan Valley Day Trip Itinerary

The first entry on the list has been in operation since 1840, making it WA’s oldest and most prolific winery. Rich in history, Sandleford’s wine portfolio is recognized as world-class and attracts attention from all corners of the globe. The estate has a delightful European restaurant and hosts many outdoor social events.

Operating as a farm for over 90 years, Chapel Farm merged with the Jane Brook Estate and transformed into the homegrown hotspot it is today. The estate has two locations, the original home of Chapel Farm with its funky bar and restaurant, and The Estate at Chapel Farm, which serves as a wine and function area.

If it’s a picturesque countryside holiday with locally grown wine that your heart desires, look no further than the Ugly Duckling. Gourmet pies and trays (dogs welcome) with live music and occasional weekend markets, and a cozy cottage like you’ve seen all over Insta, plus stunning vines and an easily recognizable yellow tractor.

Olive Farm Wines is a fourth generation winery founded in 1829 that makes wine from 100% Swan Valley grown fruit. Offering delicious tastings and tours, this place is perfect for wine connoisseurs and anyone interested in the winemaking process.

Captain Cook Cruises Western Australia

Lancaster knows that not everyone is looking for a stressful, action-packed vacation. Some of us want to kick back, relax, and enjoy the cozy vibes while sharing a delicious bottle (or two) of wine, grazing on an antipasto board, and relaxing with friends. It’s like heaven, isn’t it?

This family-run estate perfectly blends the old with the new through their European-inspired wines. Promising “something for every taste”, you’re sure to find a sip that suits you and if you can’t, winemaker Tony and his wife Ruth are happy to offer you their expert suggestions.

An award-winning estate offering unforgettable experiences, Upper Reach’s motto really says it all, “Wine is essential in life – with good food, family and friends”. This modern Australian boutique vineyard offers bargain prices, stunning views and fantastic local produce.

This gorgeous pink bus makes wine tasting easy, affordable and incredibly fun. Pick your favorite winery (or breweries) and grab your best friends and treat yourself to a delicious lunch, stunning views and world-class wines.

D’Vine wine tours run daily except Tuesdays must be experienced to understand. Their most popular half day tour is called “Sunday Day”. Because what’s better than a leisurely Sunday afternoon stroll through the Swan Valley that attracts visitors from far and wide.

For those looking for a little more action, Go Party is just… the way to go! Choose your destination, your people and your playlist but most importantly, don’t try to climb a pole after your second wine tasting (take it from us, it doesn’t end well).

Black Swan offers a variety of tour options to keep everyone happy. Full days, half days, heritage and magical mystery are just a few of the tour options to choose from, and if that doesn’t sound appealing, custom VIP tours for special occasions can make your wine tasting dreams come true.

Wildflower Season In Perth

Choose from public or private tours, decide on a package that suits your vibe and explore the full beauty of the valley. Enjoy a mountain sunset at a boutique winery with delicious cheeseboards, complimentary drinks and more. That means you can’t miss a visit if you’re ever in Western Australia.

After the Hunter Valley, the Swan Valley is Australia’s second oldest wine region. Many of the wineries in the Swan Valley have really interesting histories and age-old, tried-and-tested winemaking processes that make the wines even tastier! Many of the Swan Valley’s wineries and food venues are located along the 32km loop, so even if you only have a day to spare, you can still visit a good selection of them, as I did on my Western Australian road trip!

I’ve put together this itinerary to show you how to visit the best wineries in the Swan Valley in one beautiful day trip. But first… how to get there!

With very little public transport in the Swan Valley, there are only two ways to explore the region: by car or by tour.

Private Swan Valley Wine Tours

If you have your own car, you are good to go. If not, I recommend renting a car the night before your trip so you can start in the morning. Once you’ve sorted your car, it’s a 25-minute drive to State Highway 51, the official gateway town to fruity Chardonnays, unique sparklings and the all-important Shiraz!

If you’re ready to sit back, relax and let someone else do the driving, there are plenty of tours that take you out to explore the wineries of the Swan Valley. Whether you’re looking for a full-day tour, a half-day tour, or a tour that includes a morning cruise along the Swan River, you’re sure to find something to suit your taste and budget!

After an early breakfast at one of my favorite brunch spots in town, Flora and Fauna, you need to be in time to get to the Guildford Visitor Centre, whose doors open at 9.30am. Here, you can find a super helpful map of the entire Swan Valley Wine Loop and start mapping out your day. So.. to Swan Valley’s first winery!

What better way to start your day than visiting one of Western Australia’s largest cellars?! Sandleford Wines is one of the most popular wineries in the Valley, so it’s no surprise that it has a sister winery in Margaret River! Surrounded by beautiful vineyards, this winery sits in a colonial style house and has super friendly staff who were more than happy to guide me through my first experience of Swan Valley wine.

Follow the map north along the loop and you’ll reach wine number two in ten minutes. SIttella is a relatively new addition to the more traditional Swan Valley wineries, offering a fresh perspective on this historic winemaking region. The cellar door experience here is a more sophisticated affair with tastings sitting above the vineyard and knowledgeable local staff who can tell you about these beautiful drops!

A hop, skip and jump (or 3 minute drive) from Sittella is Oliver Farm Winery. Operating since 1829 and run by the same local family, this vast estate is believed to be the oldest winery in Western Australia and possibly Australia!

If you are a family traveling with kids, this is a great place to let them stretch their legs on the large lawn or play some games in the kids area. Oh, and if you like a midnight snack, the cheese board here is to die for!

Ashurst Perth Office

An upstate winery that sits about five minutes down the road from Olive Farm Winery, you’ll be there in time for lunch! And that’s good news because the food here is said to be the best in the area! Follow lunch with their unforgettable sparkling Chardonnay, Semillon or a friendly wine from the strong wine cellar door.

Bonus: If you want to venture away from Swan Valley Winery and visit a brewery, I highly recommend Mash Brewery offering tastings of their Western Australian IPA, Bad Adams Cider and more!

Harris Organic Wine is 1 km from Upper Reach Winery, but offers a different selection of wines to try! As you might have guessed from its name, this place prides itself on producing only organic products free of pesticides and chemicals. You’ll be amazed at how different the wines here are, as well as the homemade vodka, brandy and gin!

A ten minute drive from Harris Organic takes you to the end of the Swan Valley Wine Loop and the last stop on the map for us today! Although Black Swan Wines is a winery surrounded by a beautiful vineyard, it works better as a restaurant.
